Give Thanks To God

Today is Sunday. The best day of the week. It is the best day of the week for God’s people because we are able to get together to worship God, praise God, and thank God. God is more than worthy to receive our gratitude.

Being thankful to God today reminds me of an event from the Gospel of Luke. Read Luke 17:11-18:

“On the way to Jerusalem [Jesus] was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as He entered a village, He was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.’ When He saw them He said to them, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving Him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, ‘Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’

These 10 men had a horrible disease. There was nothing they could do about it. They really didn’t deserve or have some right to be healed. But Jesus, being compassionate with these men, healed them anyways. And can you believe that only 1 out of 10 realized how awesome that healing was? Only one came back to Jesus and so very humbly gave thanks.

This always reminds me of our salvation. We were unworthy to be saved. We had a horrible disease. We could not cure ourselves. But Jesus came. Had compassion on us. By His blood we are healed. The question now is, who will give Him thanks? Will you?

Today is Sunday. A day of thanks. Will you spend the day with the 9 men who did’t give thanks to Jesus? Or will you spend it with the one man whose heart was filled with joy and burst out into worship, praise, and thanksgiving? Let’s give thanks!
