Stop And Smell The World

Have you ever heard the phrase “Stop and smell the roses”? It is used as a reminder to enjoy the small things in life that we take for granted. But there is a whole world and universe that we can take for granted. Don’t just admire the beauty of roses, admire the beauty of God’s entire creation.

God’s creation is meant to remind us every minute of every day how awesome our God is. We can think that talking about the earth or animals or universe is somehow not as important as other spiritual matters. We can look at talks of creation in teaching and preaching as ‘fluff.’ No way! If it is just fluff, then why did God create it so majestically and awe inspiring? God’s creation is really the first place we even begin to know who God is. He is our Creator. He is Lord. He is the great I AM.

We have the creation account revealed to us in Genesis for a reason. God brought everything into existence by His great power and wisdom. He is awesome! The awesome signs and wonders God did with His creation throughout history are meant to show us His glory. The awesome miracles in the New Testament are meant to show us His glory.

The psalmist wrote this: “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants, You have established strength because of Your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth” (Psalm 8)!

Again the psalmist wrote: “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1).

Today, make it your aim to stop now and again to admire God’s creation around you. It will fill you with wonder. It will draw you closer to God. It will make your day today a whole lot better knowing who your awesome God is, how powerful He is, and even how much He loves you.
