How Will You Spend The day?

Welcome to another day on this planet. The Lord has given us another set of 24 hours. Most of us will actually only have 16 hours of activity today if we were to sleep for 8 hours as is recommended. Although 16 hours sounds like a lot, it really isn’t. It goes by so fast. And at the end of the day we find ourselves saying that there aren’t enough hours in a day. That’s just how time works. It’s limited. It’s important. We shouldn’t take it for granted. Since time is a precious thing we need to see all the good we can do with it. We also need to see how we can waste it.

Time is especially important when you look at it in view of eternity. Here on Earth we are bound by time. Outside of flesh and time is God and the spiritual places. We are only here for a time before we leave this world and move into the spiritual realm. So our clock is ticking. We should ask ourselves then what we are suppose to be doing with our time here on earth. Paul tells us what we are to be doing in Ephesians 5. “Be imitators of God” (v 1). “Walk as children of light…and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord” (vv 8-10). “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (vv 15-17).

We live in a sinful world that is quickly passing away. Our time is sensitive. We can use our time for serving the Lord in righteousness and good works or we can use our time for sinful pleasures and cares of the world. Paul tells us what the right choice is. We are to make the best use of the time we are given to the glory of God. There is so much good we can do in this dark world. We can shine our lights greatly.

Make the best use of the time. We are busy during the day. Work. School. Fun. Sports. Shopping. Also cell phones, tablets, computers, gaming, internet. All of these things are not sinful. The danger and struggle is that they can fill up all of our time to where we are not serving God to His glory and trying to do good works. We can be so distracted with everything that we aren’t making the best use of the time. What it boils down to is time management. It isn’t easy. But it can be done and must be done. There is so much to enjoy is this life, so much happiness, so much good. But we have to make it happen. We have to do it on purpose and make the best use of the time we have left.

So what are you going to do today? Make time for your family. Make time for your friends. Enjoy your blessings. Spend time with God in the Bible and in prayer. Encourage others. Help and serve others. Be sincere in your work and take pride in it. Show others Christ living in you. Spend time sharing the good news of salvation. The list could go on.

Today is ours. Make the most of it to God’s glory.
