Satan Can’t Have My Heart

Every night when we tuck our boys into bed we have each of them say a prayer. I have been so proud of my boys and the sweet hearts they have. While they may not fully understand everything they are praying about, they say things that really touch me and motivate me to do better.

Last night, my youngest son prayed that God help us fight against Satan. Absolutely. That is exactly what we need to be praying to God for. My oldest son has really been talking about the heart recently. Last night he prayed that God help us fight Satan all the way to our hearts and take our hearts away from him. He also asked God to help us lock the door to our hearts so that Satan can’t get in. Wow. My sons blow me away. It helps me think about what I need to be praying for.

Are you going to fight Satan today? Am I going to fight to keep Satan away from my heart? Are we going to keep the door of our hearts locked so that Satan can’t get in? This is what we need to be doing today, tomorrow, and every day after.

Remember what Paul said in Ephesians 6:10-13, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” If we are going to fight, and fight successfully, then we have to have our armor on. It’s a fight. Satan is ready to fight us. Are we ready to fight Him?

Paul also told us that we will have help from the Lord: “the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3). Paul also said that God “will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). Peter wrote in 1 Peter 2:11 that we are to “abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.” Fight it! Go to battle against the devil. Don’t let him win. Read James 4:7, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Fight against Satan. Take control of your heart and give it to God. Lock the door of your heart and when Satan comes knocking don’t let him in. Focus on your fight one day at a time. Win today! Ask God for His strength, wisdom, and power to help you. The battle belongs to the LORD. Fight. Never give up. Never give in.
