One of the best descriptions for Christians is FAMILY. A family is made up of people who have a special bond with each other. They go through life together. They love each other. They laugh. They sing. They cry. They play. They work. ‘Family’ is perfect for describing the church. God is our Father. Christ our brother. And we are brothers and sisters to one another in Christ.
Jesus wants His church to be filled with a family of people who love each other. Who care about each other. Who want to go through the ups and downs of life together. We laugh and sing and cry and work. We have a special bond with one another that goes beyond blood. We are made a family, not by our genetics, but by the precious blood of Christ. The church is seen as a family because the family relationship is so special to us.
That is why Paul said in Romans 12:10a to “love one another with brotherly affection.” We are brothers and sisters in Christ. We need to be treating one another as such. With love. Joy. Concern. Support. Kindness. We are to love one another as if we were a family.
Today, let’s love one another. Let’s see each other as brothers and sisters.
God loves us as His children. Jesus loves us as His brother/sister. So how are we loving each other?
