Remember that on a day like today, 1,984 years ago, Jesus has been hanging on the cross for 3 long hours. Jesus was nailed to the cross at 9:00am. It is only halfway done at 12:00pm. Jesus still has another 3 long hours of hanging on the cross in serious pain and suffering.
From 12:00pm until 3:00pm there was darkness over all the land. Jesus hung on the cross for a total of 6 hours. Can we even come close to realizing how extremely agonizing that was? I don’t think we can.
At 3:00pm on a Friday afternoon, Jesus died. He died for you. He died for me. He suffered terribly for everyone. So as you go through this day remember what kind of day it was so long ago. Remember what this day was about. What happened. Why it happened. Feel it in your heart. Picture it in your mind. Shed a tear or two. And thank your God for the great sacrifice of Jesus our Lord and Savior.
Remember that Jesus died today. He laid in the grave the rest of Friday, all day Saturday, and the first part of Sunday. And remember that while Friday was so dark, Sunday was so bright when our Savior rose from the dead! Hallelujah! Amen.
