Sunday is the best day of the week. Nothing else comes close. We may have days through the week that we enjoy. Saturdays are pretty fun. But Sunday….what a day. Sunday is the best day of the week because we get to do something so amazing, so thrilling, so exciting unlike anything else we can do. We get to come into the presence of our God. Our Creator. Jehovah. Our Lord and Savior. The one we’re blessed to call Father. Jesus the one we call Master and brother. The one who died for us. The one who loves us beyond measure. The one who saved us from sin and death. The one who has all power and glory. Wow. I mean, wow.
Do we appreciate and understand how awesome Sunday is? To imagine that we can even be worthy to worship God. We get to sing to Him. We get to pray to Him. We get to praise Him and show our thanks and love for Him. We get to share in a meal called the Lord’s Supper in which we commune with the Lord Himself and with one another. In 1 John 3:1, John basically said that it is completely awesome that we can even be called children of God. What amazing grace! What majesty! What love!
When I think of Sunday I think of what the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 95: “Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In His hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are His also. The sea is His, for He made it, and His hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. ”
Are you ready for SUNDAY? I am. I get excited. I get emotionally and physically energized. But like all things, you get out of it what you put into it. Maybe Sunday isn’t your favorite day. Maybe you don’t think much of it. If that’s the case, then you’re totally missing who God is, what God has done for you, and what it means to worship God. Sunday is the best day of the week. Sunday is what life is all about. Sunday is a taste of Heaven. Sunday is the Lord’s day. Sunday makes life worth the living. Worship God. Praise God. Thank God. Love God. Make Sunday the best day of your week. Sunday. What a day.
