Hurricane Irma is steadily making her way. Hurricane Harvey already did his damage. It is the season of nature that we go through. We know they are coming it’s just a matter of when and where. When we hear of a hurricane coming, what do we do? We prepare. Everyone goes shopping. Batteries. Bread. Water. Generators. Candles. Flashlights. Radios. Everybody gets ready for the hurricane to hit. Everyone makes sure that they have what they need.
We all understand being prepared and ready for things like hurricanes. But what about when it comes to the Day of the Lord when Jesus comes back? Are we preparing for that? Are we ready for the day of judgement? Not everybody is good about preparing for eternity. How sad it is that many are good at providing for their physical well-being but they fail to provide for their eternal soul.
Peter said: “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed” (2 Peter 3:10). Peter says that the day is coming. Whether we’re ready or not. It will come at a time that we don’t know and when we least expect it. Peter then tells us how to be ready for that day to come: “Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness” (2 Peter 3:11). If we want to be ready for the Lord to come back and then be in Heaven with Him for eternity, then we have to obey Him and live the holy lives He has called us to live. Be holy. Be godly. Be ready.
If we are ready for that day, then Peter says we can look forward to that day: “waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God” (2 Peter 3:12). Are you ready? Are you preparing yourself by living a holy life? If not, start now. Put away sin. Live God’s way. That Day is coming. Be holy. Be godly. Be ready.
