Some R & R is what we need sometimes. Rest and relaxation. We get tired. Worn down. We have jobs to go to. Bills to pay. Families to take care of. Shopping. School. Ball games. Doctor visits. And after a while we are dragging. We want to rest. We need to recharge and renew our minds. We need this rest or we will collapse. Rest. Relief. Peace. It’s essential.
More importantly, God offers us spiritual rest and peace. Relief from the heavy burden of sin. When we are in sin we have a load of guilt on us that we cannot bear. God offers to take that burden away. To give us rest. Jesus said, “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). Through Jesus we are freed from our burden of sin. What a joy it is to have relief from sin. Relief from guilt. Rest from the fear of going to Hell.
God gives us rest with a clean conscience while we live on this earth. But think also of what that rest will be like when we get to Heaven. No more sin. No more fighting the devil. No more pain or worry. Just rest. Relief. Peace. Joy. Love. God has promised us an eternal rest. Let’s take Him up on that offer. Let’s go to Jesus. He will give us rest.
