What is being a Christian all about? What is at its heart, its core? What is it made of? Paul gives us the answer in 1 Corinthians 13:13 when he says, “So now faith, hope, and love abide.” Paul also told the Christians in Thessalonica that he remembered their faith, hope, and love. Everything about being a Christian is founded on those three things.
FAITH. Our belief in God Almighty that He IS and that we have His Word. Believing the promises He has given of an eternal home with Him in Heaven. A faith that is obedient to His commandments and holiness. Living by faith.
HOPE. Because we have faith in God and His promises we have hope that after we die we will be raised from the dead. Hope that we have a home in Heaven. Hope that gives us comfort and strength and joy.
LOVE. Love is what has made us who we are by the grace of God. God’s love. His mercy. We love God because He first loved us. We love Him with all our heart. We are then to love one another. Love for our fellow man. Love that transcends all the evil of this world. Love. Care. Giving. Helping. Serving. Thanks be to God for His amazing love! May we imitate it.
Faith. Hope. Love. How are we doing in these three areas? This is what being a Christian is all about. Let’s grow in faith. Let’s be strengthened in hope. And let’s thrive in love. To God be all glory, power, and praise!
