God is our awesome Creator. He brought us into existence. He is the One who gave us the breath of life. He is the One who holds our very breath in the palm of His hand. He holds all of creation together. It is He who blesses us with all good things to enjoy in this life. And it is He who can and one day will bring it all to an end. The Lord our God has all authority and power. The Lord is the One who tells us what is right or wrong. He gives us His commandments and we are to obey them. He is the One who will judge us in the end by our works.
God gave us life. Ours souls are precious to Him. And He does not allow any man to take the life of another. That’s why in the 10 Commandments given to the Jews the Lord said “You shall not kill” (Exodus 20:13). Do not murder. Do not take another’s life. Murder has been a problem from the very beginning when Cain killed his brother Able. That same hate and anger has driven men to kill ever since. We live in a very violent world. War. Shootings. Gangs. Jealousy. Hatred. Bitterness. In the eyes of many life is not precious. Some do not even care about their own lives. How sad it must be for God to see His creation destroying one another. Taking the life that He has given. Murder is sin. It is wrong. Period.
There is murder that is taking place that doesn’t look like the everyday crimes so often seen. It is happening not long after life has begun. Let’s call abortion what it is. Murder. Killing. Destroying the very life God gives in the womb. Babies are being killed. But many do not see the life God has given. They only see tissue and blood. To them it isn’t life. Babies are being murdered so that the mothers and families do not have to be inconvenienced by a baby in their life. They’d rather destroy life than make sure that life thrives in this world. It is heartbreaking. What a wicked world we live in. But know that the blood of all those babies are on their heads and God will judge them accordingly.
There is another way that murder is happening without physically taking someone’s life. It is that of hate and bitterness towards your fellow man. Unloving. Vindictive. Mean. Spiteful. 1 John 3:15 says that when you hate someone then you are a murderer. We are to love one another. Forgive. Be at peace. We need to stop killing each other with our words, attitudes, and actions. And stop killing each other in our hearts. Jesus said in Matthew 5:21-22 that anger and insult will be judged just like murder.
God said that killing is wrong. Do not murder. Life is precious in the eyes of God. It should be precious in our eyes too. Murder is sin. Abortion is sin. Hate is sin. God will judge it all. Instead let’s cherish life. Be thankful for it. Love each other. Seek the best for each other. Obey God’s command. Do not kill in any shape, form, or fashion. Be holy. Be God’s.
