Hebrews 13: HOSPITALITY

I recently heard someone say that hospitality seems to be a thing of the past. It’s dying out. Doesn’t seem to be happening today.

One clear reason is that we’re so busy. In our fast pace society we’ve got places to go, things to do, people to see. We’ve got work, families, hobbies. A constant flow of expenses. We can just be so busy that we don’t take the time to consider others. Others needs. Others interests. Enjoying time with others. Getting to know others. Actually sharing in this life together. Since that is the case, let’s be reminded of what the Hebrew writer said in Hebrews 13:2…

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”

Think of those around you on a daily basis. Who is there that you could show some hospitality to? Who could you spend time with? Look for opportunities to show hospitality and kindness any way you can. Help people. Be welcoming to people. Feed folks. Encourage others. Spend time with church members. Be friendly to neighbors. Be kind to strangers. There are so many opportunities, big and small, for us to be able to show some kind of hospitality and love.

Be hospitable. Be a neighbor. Be a friend. Be a brother or sister. Be there for others. Bring happiness and enjoyment to others lives. Serve. Give. Help. Care. Don’t let hospitality die out. Make it thrive. Do it on purpose. Do it God’s way.
