Hebrews 13: THE MARRIAGE BED

In the beginning, God created everything. And everything was good in His eyes. One thing good and beautiful was the relationship He created between a man and women. It’s called marriage. One man with one woman. United as one. They get to share in all the blessings of life together. God has made us sexual beings. He created in marriage the ability for the man and woman to enjoy that bond and to enjoy having children. God’s creation was perfect. It is perfect when done His way.

But man often messes up God’s perfect creation with sin of all kinds: having sex before marriage (fornication), having sex with someone other than your spouse (adultery), even going so far as homosexuality (men with men and women with women), divorce and remarriage, pornography. God says that all of that is sin. It is not what God created. It is not what God wants.

Marriage is a beautiful thing! There is so much joy and pleasure in the blessings of a marriage. Getting to share this life together with someone you love. But it has to be done God’s way. Notice what the Hebrew writer said in Hebrews 13:4…

“Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.”

It’s that simple. When sex is not used God’s way and marriages are not done God’s way then it’s sin. And God will punish all who are in sin. Someone may enjoy the pleasures of sexual immorality in this life but they will not enjoy being tormented in Hell for eternity. Think about it. Count the cost. Is a little pleasure of sin worth losing your soul over?

We need to control our bodies and the desires of the flesh. Self-control. Discipline. Stay true and faithful to your own spouse. Be big girls and boys and keep yourself away from things you ought not to be doing. Enjoy the relationship God has created in marriage. Do it God’s way. God’s way works. God’s way is the only way that will lead to eternal life. Enjoy the bond of love and sexual pleasure with your own spouse. Don’t go seeking any of that from someone else. Be faithful to God. Be faithful to your spouse. Be faithful to your children. Marriage is beautiful. Don’t mess it up with sin.
