Hebrews 13: BE CONTENT

Greed. Discontentment. Covetousness. Overworking. Stealing. Jealousy. Materialism. These are all the product of loving money. Worry and anxiety also come into play when there is a lack of faith and trust in God. When we focus only on our material things we fail to live the way God wants us to. God wants us to pursue spiritual life over this fleshly one. Spiritual blessings over physical blessings. God, His kingdom, and His righteousness are to be first priority in our lives. Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy 6 that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. The love of money does not produce the righteousness of God. And so Paul also said that true gain is to live a godly life and be content with whatever amount of physical blessings we may have. We are to love God more than ourselves. Love God more than our material possessions. Trust in God to take care of us no matter what.

Hebrews 13:5-6 says, “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?'”

We are to keep ourselves from greed and covetousness. If we focus on material things we will never be satisfied. We will never have enough. But this whole world is coming to an end one day and we aren’t taking a single thing with us. So is it worth losing our soul over? We are to lay up treasures in Heaven, not earth. Money will draw us away from God. We can’t let that happen. We need to learn to be content with what we have. Do not let money cause you to sin.

God has promised to take care of us. No matter what. He doesn’t promise us great wealth in this life but He has provided us with eternal life with Him in Heaven. That is the greatest treasure of all! And He will take care of us while we go through this life. In good times and bad. We have to love and trust God, not money.

What are you focused on? What am I doing each and every day? Are we focused on making more and more money? Getting more and more stuff? Or are we focused on getting more and more closer to God? Becoming more and more spiritual, faithful, holy. Do not love money. Love God. Put God first. Jesus said that we are to be laying up treasures in Heaven, not on earth. Listen to Him. Trust in Him. Be godly and content.
