Jesus’ Parables: Heaven Is Worth It All

Heaven. Eternal life. Being in the presence of God. We can’t even imagine what that will be like. But how real is it to us? How bad do we want to go? Do we even care about our soul? What is your soul worth to you? How much do you love God and want to be with Him in Heaven? Do I really see how badly I need saving? Do I realize how truly priceless Heaven is and the price that was paid by Jesus because of my sin?

Jesus tried to impress upon the minds of His hearers, and us today as His readers just how important and priceless Heaven really is when He said “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field” (Matthew 13:44). Here He says that the worth of Heaven is just like a man who found a hidden treasure and was so excited that he was willing to sell everything he could in order to buy the field that the treasure was in. Do you think it was important to that man? Look at what he was willing to do to gain that treasure.

Again Jesus said that “the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it” (Matthew 13:45-46). We see another man who found something of great worth and was so excited that he went and sold everything he could in order to have that one pearl. It was worth everything.

That is how we are to understand Heaven. Heaven is worth it all. If we truly know who God is, how much He loves us, and how special Heaven is then we will give our whole heart to God. There isn’t anything that we wouldn’t be willing to do for the Lord. So how much do we love God? How badly do we want to be with Him in Heaven? Are there things that you’re not willing to do for the Lord? Are you not really interested in godly things? Where is your heart? Where is your focus? If you miss Heaven then you’ve missed it all. Jesus asked what a man was willing to give in exchange for his soul. What is your soul worth to you? Is enjoying sin in this life worth spending an eternity in Hell? Or is it worth it to reject sin in order to spend eternity in Heaven with God? Will you give up everything for the Lord in order to go to Heaven?
