“Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires” (Rom 13:11-14).
The time. Time is limited. Time is precious. Time flies by. And every day, every hour, every minute and every second we are getting closer to eternity. It will come either by death or by the return of Jesus Christ our Savior. So how are we spending our time? What are we busy doing with our lives? Are we living for God? Or for self? Are we living in righteousness? Or are we living in sin?
Paul tells us that we need to wake up, smell the coffee, and get busy serving the Lord. Seeing as how one day we are going to be judged according to what we did with our time. We can look forward to salvation in eternity if we are living for God. But if we’re not living for God then we need to wake up, repent, and get to living the godly life God has called us to live. We are to get rid of the works of darkness. Get rid of sin. Stop it. Put it away. Then go and put on the armor of light. The light of God. Holiness.
We’re to walk properly and live the way that is pleasing to God. Not in sin! Not in revelries, drunkenness, or sexual immorality. Not in fighting or jealousy. We’ve got to wake up and see how serious and bad sin really is. It isn’t a joke. God isn’t playing around. So get rid of it. Get to living God’s way. The only way that leads to salvation.
Put on the Lord Jesus Christ. How? By following His example. Living the way He lived. Living the way He taught us. Righteous. Holy. Obedient. Faithful. Stop making provisions for the flesh. Stop finding ways to satisfy the pleasures of your flesh. Give up on sin. Be done with it. Do whatever you can to stay away from it. In doing so you’ll be ready for the day of salvation when we get to be in Heaven with God.
How are you spending your time? Are you awake? Wake up! Get busy. Live God’s way. Do it on purpose. God’s way works. God’s way leads to eternal life. Put on the armor of light. Put on Jesus Christ. Walk in the light of the Lord. Be ready every day.
