A Psalm: Jesus Reigns

We are living in a world filled with sin. Filled with the nations of men. Filled with the schemes and wars of men. Mankind has always sought after their own passions and lusts, greed and power. Many reject God and live life the way they want to. They ignore God’s power and majesty. In the midst of the nations of men and the sins that fill them, we need to remember Psalm 2 which says:

“Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, ‘Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.’

He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then He will speak to them in His wrath, and terrify them in His fury, saying, ‘As for Me, I have set My King on Zion, My holy hill.’ I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to Me, ‘You are My Son; today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your heritage, and the ends of the earth Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.’

Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, for His wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.” (Psalm 2:1-12)

The nations of men can do whatever they want to do, make whatever laws they want to make, fight any war they want to fight. But nothing will change the fact that the LORD reigns! Jesus is King. He is in control. The Lord laughs at the attempts of mankind to be in control. The Lord holds them in derision and allows them to deceive themselves.

The psalmist warns that we shouldn’t make our true King, Jesus, angry. We should be living to please Jesus. If we are wise we will serve the Lord in fear and rejoice with trembling. We will be blessed if we put our trust and hope in the Lord.

Are you living for the King? Or yourself? Are you accepting God’s will? Or rejecting it? Are you pleasing Jesus? Or stirring Him to wrath?

Be wise! Be righteous. Serve King Jesus with fear and gladness. Set your hope on Him.
