It doesn’t take long to realize that our culture and society is obsessed with sex. The world today is immersed in sexual pleasure. It is all around us and readily available. Internet, pornography, phone apps, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, commercials, TV shows, advertisements, the way people dress. The list is huge. All of this has come about because of the problem of lust. As John said, all that is in the world is the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes.
Didn’t God make us sexual beings? Yes, He did. But He has given us the instruction we need to control our own bodies and use them in the way He has said to. God created man and woman. He made them exactly the way He wanted them to be. He created them to be sexual beings. He created them to be unified in marriage. One man with one woman. Sex is a good and beautiful thing between a husband and wife. It’s when we go outside the bounds of marriage that sex becomes sinful.
But even if you don’t physically have sex with someone, lusting after someone with sexual thoughts and desire is still sin. Read what Jesus said in Matthew 5:27-28, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Lust is of the mind and heart. Jesus tells us the solution in Matthew 5:29-30. He says that we have to get rid of anything that cause us to lust. Anything that leads to sin. Make no provision for the flesh. Turn the TV off when you are tempted. Turn the computer off. Walk away and do something else.
Satan wants us to look and to lust. But we can overcome it. We can defeat Satan at his games. Keep a pure heart. Keep a pure mind. Don’t let Satan in. Don’t give in to the flesh. God will give you strength to overcome it. God will guide you. Follow the Lord. Turn away from evil. Do not seek the passing pleasures of sin. It may feel good in the flesh, but it sure won’t feel good in Hell. Do not lust. Be pure and holy. Stay strong and faithful.
